Dr. Kristin Welch, the visionary founder of DVM STAT Consulting, is a dedicated educator and seasoned professional in the field of Emergency and Critical Care. Her profound love for teaching, unwavering passion for veterinary medicine, and commitment to excellence have propelled her to create a teleconsultation platform that extends the reach of specialty medicine beyond traditional boundaries. A 2005 graduate with Honors from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Welch's journey is adorned with accolades, including the Small Animal Clinical Proficiency Award and the Wade O. Brinker Orthopedic Surgery Award. Following an Internship in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006, she further honed her skills by completing a residency in Emergency and Critical Care at Tufts University in 2010, earning Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Relocating to Charleston, SC after her residency, Dr. Welch played a pivotal role in establishing the Southeast's first VECCS Level I Emergency and Critical Care certified hospital as the Chief of Emergency and Critical Care. More recently, she co-founded a private specialty and emergency hospital in South Carolina, contributing significantly to the advancement of veterinary care in the region. Dr. Welch's expertise shines in handling patients with multiple comorbidities. Proficient in mechanical ventilation, interventional procedures, and diagnostic ultrasound, she finds joy in the intricacies of internal medicine and Emergency and Critical Care. Her special interests include trauma management, fluid resuscitation, transfusion medicine, and addressing metabolic and respiratory emergencies. An avid lecturer since 2006, Dr. Welch shares her wealth of knowledge as a regional and national lecturer. She has lectured internationally through the online platform VetScope and held a prior role as adjunct lecturer for the Veterinary Technology program at Trident Technical College. Her contributions extend to publications in the Journal of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, and Veterinary Clinical Advisor. Dr. Welch's commitment to the future of veterinary professionals is evident in her advisory role on the Veterinary Professionals’ NextGen NEXTBOARD, guiding the next generation of veterinarians.
